Reactive Summit 2018

Diversity and Inclusion Program

We do our very best to create a conference environment in which everyone feels welcome, and as such we are excited to explicitly foster this inclusive environment at Reactive Summit with our 2018 diversity and inclusion program.

Our goal is to help make Reactive Summit accessible to groups historically underrepresented or excluded in the technology sector, including but not limited to women, people of color, LGBTQ+, and/or people with disabilities. Our definition of underrepresented groups in tech is intentionally wide. We don’t exclude anyone on the basis of ability, class, color, gender, or creed.

Scholarship Program

To support folks from underrepresented groups, participants of our scholarship program receive a comped ticket to the conference plus three nights at our designated hotel and a $500 USD travel stipend to help make their way to Montreal. If you are a member of an underrepresented group in tech and would like to join us at Reactive Summit, then please fill out the application.

Submissions are now closed.

This workshop is intended to reach out to women, non-binary people, and all underrepresented populations who are interested in learning Scala. In this workshop, we'll take you through the basics of functional programming in Scala, a powerful language that has uses in everything from web applications to data science to large-scale distributed systems. By the end of the day, you'll have built several doodles, have a basic understanding of functional programming, and have a grasp of Scala fundamentals. Sign up as a student or volunteer as a mentor.

Diversity and Inclusion: Bring the Thunder

Tuesday, October 23, 18:30

Lightbend has partnered with sponsors and the tech community to bring you an expert panel of speakers focused on how individuals can create more inclusive environments. This format, pioneered by Meraki, has proven to stimulate awareness and individual action so we’re thrilled to continue to bring the thunder. Panelists will be sharing personal stories along with research knowledge to provide insight into how to create an inclusive environment in day to day work. Join us for the conversation.
